New Citywide Meter Change Out

September 20,2022

In March 2022, the City of Flagler Beach, Florida began a citywide replacement of its outdated and zero read meters. The conversion included accounting updates to our software to synchronize meter readings to our new radio read meters. This new system provides accurate reads and billings to our residents as well as helps us to track water/sewer consumption. In the past, our outdated system was not consistent in its data retrieval and had limited resources to confirm reads and billings. The City now has the tools needed to capture daily accurate water usage reports that will help identify any potential water leaks and help us to provide a higher level of customer service to our residents. The new technology also allows the City staff to read all citywide meters in a day instead of the three weeks that it used to take.

With a new system in place, the Finance Department and the Utility Billing Department are in the process of streamlining the billing process.

The purpose of this notice is to inform you that a new billing cycle read will take place starting November, 2022. Because we have the ability of reading meters in one day, we no longer will need the staggered read dates. Going forward, meter reading will now take place mid-month on all future billing cycles. This will only affect your billing the first month. You may see a few extra days on your October bill.

Additionally, if you had a bad meter and/or a large meter, our old system wasn’t picking up all the dials in the read and was, therefore, calculating and billing lower read amounts compared to actual usage. The conversion identified and corrected any low read errors in our old system and is now calculating correctly. If an account has a meter 1.5” and above, you will see an increase in your monthly billing. Please take this information in to consideration when planning for your future usage.

The City would like to thank you in advance for your patience throughout the replacement install and the accounting conversion.
